Apparently tri-channel doest gain you any advantage over dual at higher speeds. Also places less stress on the IMC. Anyone else notice the top guns like hipro running dual?

are they doing that because they blew out a channel? lol j/k. There shouldn't be a difference so less stress is alway best.

If you feel like something is holding you back besides your CPU, then give it a shot to see if you get stability.  Right now, my 920 d0 is only being held back by cooling/voltage so it isn't worthwhile for me to drop channels.  This is something someone with cascade/DICE/LN2 should test.

I know that there have been those who have seen Romdominance's pics with dual channel during benching and asked "why?"

oh and the ram you use in your i7 rig will work great, especially for 2d, as the ram on the clarks never really exceeds 1800 at any multi.
